Loyola College, Chennai, is owned by the Jesuits and has been providing education to the country for 89 years. The institution’s care and commitment to the student’s well-being is well known. The University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s Ministry of Education, and the Tamil Nadu government have all emphasized the importance of Vocational Education as an integral aspect of education. According to UGC guidelines, Loyola College’s administration established an essential autonomous entity called LIVE (Loyola Institute of Vocational Education) in 1996 to provide Vocational Education and Research.

The institute began offering a variety of vocational courses that are both socially relevant and job-oriented. These courses are given as part-time courses in the morning and afternoon to both students and working people. It makes use of the existing Loyola College infrastructure, administrative network, lab facilities, and other resources. These courses are intended to teach technical skills. With compassion and attention, they also assist youngsters in their whole growth. This is the Society of Jesus’ vision and mission.

For more than 18 years, the institution has successfully run a few vocational courses such as Travel and Tourism Management, Marketing Management, and Medical Laboratory. Notwithstanding the fact that these courses are not affiliated with the University of Madras, they are generally acknowledged for their worth and excellence. Students who have completed these courses have previously obtained positions at various levels. Furthermore, the UGC has advised that such courses be conducted in the name and certification of Autonomous Colleges.

Students in their first, second, and third years of undergraduate studies are entitled to pursue LIVE courses alongside their degree courses (both in shifts 1st and 2nd). The manner of education differs from course to course. All courses include lectures on theoretical subjects, group discussions, seminars, business games, audio-visuals, case study methods, and research assignments, as well as field trips, production-based practicals, industrial visits, educational tours, orientation programs, and internships. Specialists in various professions provide special talks. Internship is part of the program.
