Navy ROTC Scholarship Application Process

To apply for the Navy ROTC scholarship, applicants must use the online application to complete and submit all essential information.

This online application is lengthy and could take several hours to complete. You can launch the application and save your progress as you go through each section. We have included an Application Information Checklist to help you gather information and speed the scholarship application process.

Get Application Information Checklist

Applicants must list five Navy ROTC linked colleges or universities on their scholarship application. If you are chosen, we will strive to place your scholarship at your first choice school; but, due to constraints on the number of scholarships that can be given at each NROTC institution, your scholarship may be placed at your second through fifth preference school.

The scholarship offer is for a specific institution and may not be used at any other NROTC school without prior approval. To use the scholarship, you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in your designated institution. Applying to more than one institution increases your chances of acceptance and enrollment, and hence your opportunity to use a scholarship if accepted.

Each applicant must also select an academic program in which he or she intends to major. All academic programs fall into three tiers relative to the Navy’s technical needs.  (See the Scholarship Selection Criteria “Tab” on the “Program-Info” page.)

Scholarships will be given to an NROTC institution in accordance with the applicant’s academic major and tier as mentioned on their application. If a scholarship is offered, the student is expected to attend the school where the scholarship is put. If you no longer wish to attend the school where your scholarship is assigned, or if you are not admitted, you may request a change of placement to transfer your scholarship to another institution.

If that school has space for another scholarship, we will transfer your award there. If not, you may request to be placed on the wait-list for that institution, and we will endeavour to shift your scholarship there if space becomes available.

The NROTC Placement Office processes and approves requests. If a student chooses a cross-town school, they must be aware that there may be cross-town travel costs and class scheduling concerns that must be managed. The academic major or equivalent for which the scholarship was given must be supported by the school in which you are enrolled. In addition, the student must have applied to and been accepted at any school where they desire to use the scholarship.

After you’ve filed your application, you can make changes to it until midnight on January 31.

Changes to your Program Option (Navy, Nurse, or Marine) must be made at least one week before the application window closes.
